France: Clément Beaune remains the ‘Mr. Europe ‘by Macron

(ANSA) – PARIS, MAY 20 – Clément Beaune, former Secretary of State for European Affairs today promoted to the rank of ‘Minister for European Affairs’ remains Emmanuel Macron’s ‘Mister Europe’. Former adviser to Macron, appointed secretary of state in 2020, Beaune has made a name for himself thanks to his great knowledge of community dossiers and strong media exposure, especially in times of the pandemic and during the war in Ukraine.

“Thanks to Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Borne for this promotion that honors me. I am proud to defend our European commitment to France”, wrote the former Erasmus student in a tweet, who later graduated from the prestigious Ena (Ecole Normale d ‘administration) and the Collège d’Europe in Bruges (Montesquieu Promotion). Beaune? “He is the only secretary of state that has ever existed”, comments the president of the Foreign Commission of the National Assembly, Jean-Louis Bourlanges, adding: “He was never arrogant, he is highly appreciated, with that student nature of the Collège de Bruges that everyone likes “.

The son of a Russian-born nurse and a professor of medicine at the Necker-Enfants malades hospital in Paris, Beaune comes from a French left-wing family. His father was a supporter of the socialist president, Francois Mitterrand, whom Beaune himself sometimes mentioned in his speeches. Grandfather, Israel Naroditzki, was deported and murdered in Auschwitz. A fervent pro-European and staunch supporter of the European integration process, the young minister born in Paris on 14 August 1981 also appeared in the Franco-German and Belgian fiction ‘Parlement’ (2020), where he played himself. In recent months he too has been one of the main leaders of the French presidency of the European Union. (HANDLE).
