We are talking about sectoral sanctions against the Belarusian financial and transport system. In particular, due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, about 30 billion euros of assets of Russian and Belarusian oligarchs and organizations were frozen. Notice of this is posted on the website of the European Commission. There are no official messages from the Serbian authorities on this issue.

This is the second precedent when Serbia enters EU sanctions related to Ukraine. In mid-March, Belgrade joined the EU sanctions against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

According to a study by the Serbian Center for International and Security Affairs (ISAC), Serbia consistently complied with the restrictive EU measures against Belarus until April 2019, after which it refused to continue the sanation regime.

Additional sanctions against Russia

The next package of sanctions from Canada provides for other restrictions. For example, a ban on the export of targeted luxury goods to and from Russia. These are items such as:

• alcoholic drinks;
• tobacco;
• some textiles;
• sportswear;
• shoes;
• elite clothes and accessories;
• jewelry;
• dishes;
• art objects.

It will no longer be possible to sell alcohol, seafood, fish and non-industrial diamonds from Russia to Canada. At the end of 2021, all these categories of goods brought the aggressor $75.7 million from Canadians.

“These bans will help mitigate the potential for Russian oligarchs to circumvent restrictions in other luxury markets.”– are convinced in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

In addition, the Canadian government imposes a ban on the sale to Russia of goods that the aggressor could potentially use to produce weapons. Thus, they are trying to maintain pressure on the Putin regime and stop the war in Ukraine.
