Biden says smallpox spread to monkeys ‘should worry everyone’

Before leaving for Tokyo, the president spoke with journalists and talked about the increase in the number of cases of the disease.

Biden said officials did not report on the “exposure level” of the US population. “But it is something that should concern everyone. […] It’s a concern in the sense that if it spreads it would be relevant,” Biden told reporters before boarding Air Force One and traveling to Japan. Since the beginning of May, several Western countries have registered cases of the disease, which has raised concerns about the rapid spread of the disease. In the US, the first case was recorded on May 18. This Sunday, the second case of the disease was confirmed in American territory.
