Ukraine, convicted Russian soldier will appeal

(ANSA) – KIEV, MAY 23 – Vadim Shishimarin the Russian soldier found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment in Kiev will appeal against the sentence. His lawyer said so.

“This is the most severe sentence and any balanced person would contest it,” said the lawyer, Viktor Ovsyannikov, after the court hearing, adding: “I will ask for the court verdict to be quashed.” The soldier, Vadim Shishimarin, 21, was found guilty in the first trial in Kiev for war crimes and was sentenced to life in prison for killing an unarmed civilian just days after the Russian invasion began.
