Labor Anthony Albanese was sworn in as Australia’s new prime minister. The 59-year-old neo-premier was sworn in during a brief ceremony at the Canberra seat of government. Other members of his team taking office include Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Budget Minister Jim Chalmers and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher.
The former leader of the center-left opposition will participate tomorrow in Tokyo at the summit of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) between the United States, India, Japan and Australia.
Albanese said he wants to take advantage of his first official trip abroad to “let the world know that there is a change of government” in Australia. “There will be some changes in our policy, particularly with regard to climate change and our engagement with the world on this issue,” she explained.
