Richest man in Ukraine sues Russia for Azovstal bombs

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 26 – Rinat Akhmetov, the richest man in Ukraine has sued Russia for over 20 billion dollars for the losses suffered by the bombing of his steel plant in Mariupol. Sky news writes, stating that the Azovstal complex suffered severe damage from Russian bombing after the plant became the last defense bastion in the Ukrainian port city. Civilians and military took refuge under the plant for months, before surrendering last week.

Illich Steel and Iron Works, the second largest metallurgical company in Ukraine, was also severely damaged during the Russian bombing of Mariupol.

“We will certainly sue Russia and demand adequate compensation for all losses and lost business,” Rinat Akhmetov told Ukrainian news portal mrpl.city, adding that he has remained in Ukraine since the start of the war with Russia: ” We believe in our country and we believe in our victory, “he said.

Akhmetov, besides being the owner of the Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol, is a Ukrainian entrepreneur, sports executive and tycoon, president of System Capital Management, one of the leading industrial companies in Ukrainian finance, and of the football club Shakhtar Donetsk. (HANDLE).
