Lithuanian citizens raise 5 million to buy drones in Kiev

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 28 – Lithuanian citizens raised the sum of 5 million euros with a crowdfunding initiative “in just 3 and a half days” to buy a Turkish-made Bayraktar drone to be delivered to Ukraine for war against Russia. This was announced by the Vilnius government on Twitter.

The initiative was launched on Wednesday by a well-known Laisves TV anchorman, Andrius Tapinas. Vilnius stressed that many of the donations were of small amounts “between 10 and 500 euros”. “Simply wow!”, The Ukrainian government immediately commented. “We will never forget what you have done for us on so many fronts. Aciu (thank you in Lithuanian, ed) to every Lithuanian who has donated, your gift will be used for a good purpose,” tweeted Kiev.

Ukrainian forces have already used the Turkish drone during the conflict: thanks to the Bayraktar, two Russian Raptor-class patrol boats near the now known Snake Island were destroyed in early May. (HANDLE).
