THE Russia on Saturday, 28, tested a hypersonic Zircon cruise missile at a distance of about 1,000 kilometers and successfully hit the target, the Ministry of Defense said. This move comes as Russian troops intensify Moscow’s offensives in eastern Europe. Ukraine. This is not the first time they have fired such a shot, and the missile used today is part of a new generation of weapons systems by Vladimir Putin, which he considers “incomparable”.

The Zircon was launched in the Barents Sea to a target in the Arctic waters of the White Sea and is expected to equip the ships and submarines of the Russian fleet. Since the beginning of the war, Russia’s military has suffered heavy losses of men and equipment, but has continued to conduct high-level weapons tests to remind the world of its prowess in missile technology. In March, Russia said it had used Kinjal hypersonic missiles in its Ukraine offensive that began in February, a feature it has not officially used until now except for testing. In April, it tested the launch of a new nuclear-capable intercontinental missile, the Sarmat, capable of carrying 10 or more warheads and reaching the United States.

At the same time as carrying out this testing, the Russians have also reported that they have taken control of Lyman, a key point in their advance into eastern Ukraine, while making way for the larger cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. “Following joint actions by militia units of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian armed forces, the city of Lyman has been fully liberated from Ukrainian nationalists,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The capture of Lyman removes a major obstacle for Sloviansk and then Kramatorsk, without neglecting the attempt to encircle Severodonetsk and Lyssychansk, two other important Ukrainian cities, located further east.
