Infections have been identified in Florida, Colorado, California, Utah, Washington, New York and Virginia.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in United States (CDC) confirmed that the country has recorded 12 cases of monkey pox. According to the health agency, infections were identified in different states. The first positive was confirmed on May 18, in an adult male, resident of Massachusetts, who had recently visited Canada. Then there was detection of the viral disease in Florida, Colorado, California, Utah, as well as Washington, New York and Virginia. The CDC points out that the symptoms of the disease are similar to those of the now-eradicated smallpox: fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, chills and fatigue. In addition, some patients often have inflammation of the lymph nodes and rashes. “It is unclear how a person is exposed to monkeypox, but among the cases there are people who have identified as men who have sex with other men.” Currently, the CDC urges anyone with symptoms similar to monkeypox to contact health centers.
