Philippines: eruption of Bulusan volcano southeast of Manila

(ANSA) – MANILA, June 05 – A violent eruption shook today the Philippine island of Luzon southeast of Manila, in the Bicol region, where the Bulusan volcano suddenly woke up and covered the surrounding towns with ash, lifting a column of smoke at least one kilometer high.

The authorities evacuated the surrounding towns and warned the population against possible further eruptions.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the eruption lasted about 17 minutes and covered two towns in the rural province of Sorsogon, located about 500 kilometers south of the capital, in ash. For the moment there are no reported injuries or victims. (HANDLE).
