(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 07 – The bodies of Ukrainian fighters killed in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, returned by Russia to the Ukrainian authorities, have been transferred to Kiev. Ukrinform reports citing the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security and the Azovstal Defender Families Association.
“A third of the bodies are those of the fighters of the Azov regiment. The belonging of the other corpses to other military units is being verified,” the report said.
Family members of the fallen will be called for identification but the forensic experts’ work could last three months.
On June 4, Ukrinform recalls, Ukraine and Russia exchanged the bodies of soldiers on the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region. (HANDLE).
