(ANSA) – TUNIS, 08 JUN – “Most of the migrants arriving in Italy by sea depart from Libya (10,932), 4,240 depart from Turkey (half of them Afghans) and 3,708 from Tunisia”. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mediterranean writes it in a tweet that summarizes the situation from January 1st to May 31st 2022.
The IOM defines “worrying” the fact that “7,742 migrants have been intercepted at sea and sent back to Libya, where many are often victims of violence and abuse”. Furthermore, “143 migrants died and another 547 disappeared on the central Mediterranean route” from January to the end of May, stresses IOM Libya in another tweet. (HANDLE).
