GB: Prince William sells magazines for charity on the street

(ANSA) – LONDON, JUN 09 – Prince William, second in line to the British throne of 96-year-old Elizabeth II, was noticed in the heart of London by a passer-by while he was helping activists of a charity to sell in the Westminster district copies of the magazine ‘Big Issue’: published to raise public awareness of social problems linked to poverty in the Kingdom and whose proceeds are destined to support the homeless and the long-term unemployed.

This was reported by the BBC, according to which the 39-year-old Duke of Cambridge was identified by chance by Matthew Gardner, a retired former policeman, who – after having photographed him in the traditional uniform of volunteers who sell Big Issue at 3 pounds per copy (4.5 if you buy two) – he then shared the image on his social profile. Gardner said the first sight of William in a side street, Rochester Row, was his brother-in-law. And he said he was able to approach him without difficulty to exchange a few words.

“It was an honor to have had a private moment with our future king, humbly and quietly working behind the scenes to help those most in need,” commented the former police inspector. “These are silent gestures, often overlooked”, he added admiringly.

The Duke of Cambridge, eldest son of the heir to the throne Charles and the late Lady D, is involved in various charitable initiatives in the Kingdom together with his wife Kate (some of which are dedicated in particular to the homeless): both as an official representative of the Windsor dynasty and individually.

Initiatives that in the past he claimed to support – like his rebellious younger brother Harry – also being inspired by the example of his unforgettable mother Diana. (HANDLE).
