Syria: Assad, if Turkey attacks us it will be direct confrontation

(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, 10 JUN – Syrian President Bashar al Assad said that if Turkey attacks Syria there will be a direct confrontation with the Damascus army.

“If there is an invasion, first there will be resistance from the population,” Assad said during an interview with Russia Today, as reported by various Turkish media, adding that “in the places where the Syrian army is deployed, and it is not present in all regions, when conditions allow a comparison we will do it “.

The Syrian president recalled a clash between the two armies already two and a half years ago where “the Syrian army was able to destroy Turkish targets that had entered the territory of Syria”. According to Assad, if Ankara attacks Syria “the situation will be the same and there will also be popular resistance”.

Yesterday, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced that the Ankara army has completed preparations for a new offensive in northern Syria against Kurdish forces, considered terrorist by Turkey.

In recent weeks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had announced that the military operation would begin “soon”. (HANDLE).
