In France on Sunday, June 12, the first round of elections to the French Parliament took place. According to preliminary data, the bloc of leftist parties led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in the lead.
It is reported by Le Figaro.
According to the French Ministry of the Interior, left-wing parties receive 25.7% of the vote, while Together! led by President Emmanuel Macron received 25%.
In third place is Marine Le Pen’s “National Rally” party, which went to the polls on its own, with a score of 19.3%, while the “Republicans” bloc of right-wing parties tentatively receives only 11.6%.
As Le Figaro notes, despite the second place in the first round, the “Together!” has a chance to get a majority of votes in the second round of the parliamentary elections on June 19.
Estimated “Together!” can get from 275 to 310 seats in the National Assembly – for an absolute majority, 289 deputies are required.
The second round of elections will take place on June 19, and the final results will be known after that date.
Preliminary data show that about 48 million voters took part in Sunday’s voting. As of 17:00 local time, the turnout in the parliamentary elections in France was 39.42%, which is less than in 2017 (40.75%).
