Muslims hoping to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, and who have already booked with their tour operator, could risk losing thousands of pounds after the Saudi government mandates online booking. According to the BBC, pilgrims have been asked to use a specialized website in order to register, which will be followed by an extraction that will choose who will be able to go to the Hajj.
The Hajj is the traditional pilgrimage to the Holy Mosque of Mecca and forms the fifth pillar of Islam. The cost of a once in a lifetime trip, especially for those arriving from afar, can be exorbitant and for many Muslims it takes years to save the necessary amount of money.
