India: Rahul Gandhi at a hearing on money laundering charges

(ANSA) – NEW DELHI, JUN 13 – Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian Congress party, presented himself this morning in New Delhi at the headquarters of the Enforcement Directorate, (ED), the Indian Revenue Agency, to answer on the money laundering allegations linked to the National Herald newspaper, a historic party-owned newspaper.

It is the first time that the leader of the Congress, 51, appears in front of a detective agency. Gandhi reached the ED headquarters on foot, accompanied by a group of party leaders and militants, including his sister Priyanka and the Prime Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot.

The police issued an ordinance banning any demonstration around the ED headquarters: hundreds of militants who had converged in the area anyway from the early hours of the morning were stopped.

The Agency had also summoned Sonia Gandhi: positive for Covid since June 2, the widow of Rajiv Gandhi, the premier murdered 30 years ago, has been hospitalized since yesterday at Ganga Ram Hospital, for checks on any complications related to the virus. (HANDLE).
