Smallpox monkeys, Canada opens first vaccine clinics

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, JUNE 13 – In Canada, in Toronto, the first monkeypox vaccine clinics have opened. Toronto Public Health explained that in the coming weeks, several clinics will be able to vaccinate those who have had close contact with someone who tested positive and those at greater risk of being exposed to the virus. The first clinic began immunizing high-risk individuals yesterday, and is intended for employees of bathing establishments.

In the city there are 11 confirmed cases, while in total in Canada the infections have reached 112. Doctor Theresa Tam said that most of the cases involve men who have had sexual contact with other men, although the virus can spread to anyone who has had close physical contact with an infected person.
