In the event of a successful outcome of the war with Ukraine for Russia, the Kremlin planned to go to the Baltic countries. This was stated by the deputy of the Lithuanian Seimas Matas Maldeikis to TV presenter Vasily Golovanov on the air of “FREEDOM” on the YouTube channel “Ukraine 24”.

“If they (Russia – ed.) had succeeded in the plan for Ukraine, then in five years they would have come to us. They would have tried to look at NATO’s defense and whether NATO would have reacted the way they think. Suwalki corridor (a hypothetical land “corridor” about 100 kilometers long, which could connect the territory of Belarus with the Kaliningrad region of Russia – ed.). Now they will not be able to do this in the next 20 years,” he said.

The politician told how the situation is perceived in Lithuania.

“Lithuania has already become a normal Western state, the difference of which is that they are postmodern. You live in a completely different world, your problems are completely different, you decide such things as where to go in the summer and why real estate becomes more expensive – such questions. You never think that war will come in the 21st century. When most politicians spoke about this, people said that this is impossible and there is no need to throw a tantrum, this is impossible in the 21st century. We assured that this is possible, because there is a state that lives in understanding of the world of the 19th century, and this must be understood and prepared for. When we first gained our independence, we did it every day – we went to the EU and NATO.It was a long time, we had to sacrifice a lot, short-term benefits in order to win in the long run,” he said.

The MP assured that Lithuania actively supports Ukraine. He noted that Lithuania went through on the way to the EU and NATO the same thing that Ukraine is going through, but they always had an understanding that the pro-Russian policy is disastrous for the country.
