Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin at a meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine urged not to weaken the supply of weapons. According to him, the West must increase military support for Ukraine and not hesitate, because the stakes are very high – a large-scale Russian invasion threatens the security of Europe and the rules-based world order.

Austin’s speech was broadcast on the Youtube channel Ukraine 24.

“I am grateful for the significant military assistance that the contact group (Ramstein-format countries – Ed.) has already provided. But we cannot afford to delay and lose momentum – the stakes are very high.”– he said.

Russia has focused on the Donbas, using long-range weapons and continuing indiscriminate bombing, Austin said. He noted that he is in close contact with Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov and is trying to meet the needs of the Ukrainian forces, in particular for long-range weapons.

In addition, Austin recalled that the United States supplied Ukraine with howitzers, helicopters, counter-battery radars, Javelins and other weapons. According to him, Washington intends to further expand the capabilities of the Ukrainian army, in particular, it will supply MLRS HIMARS.

“This (deliveries of HIMARS. – Ed.) will significantly enhance the capabilities of Ukraine. Especially in combination with additional deliveries of” NATO “missile systems from the UK and other partners”– he said.

Austin urged the meeting participants to make even greater efforts to make sure that Ukraine can protect itself, its citizens and its territory.

“We must increase our shared commitment to Ukraine’s self-defense, and we must push ourselves even harder to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself, its citizens, and its territory. But make no mistake: Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion not only poses a danger to Ukraine, It is also a threat to European security.”Austin emphasized.
