(ANSAMed) – BEIRUT, JUN 15 – Lebanese President Michel Aoun has convened the representatives of the various parliamentary groups on 23 June for constitutional consultations on the appointment of the new premier. This was reported by the presidency of the Lebanese Republic with a statement quoted by the Lebanese national agency NNA.
According to Lebanese political sources, cited by the Beirut media, the outgoing premier Najib Miqati is considered the favorite to hold the position of head of government again.
In recent months, the Miqati executive had managed to negotiate a preliminary agreement with the International Monetary Fund for the disbursement of the necessary funds to support Lebanon, which has been struggling with its worst financial crisis for three years.
The consultations on 23 June will begin in the morning and end in the afternoon.
After the legislative elections last May, presidential elections are scheduled for autumn in Lebanon. (ANSAMed).
