Tanzania: Amnesty, stop to suppress Masai protests

(ANSA) – CAIRO, JUN 16 – “The Tanzanian authorities must immediately stop the violent forced eviction of the Maasai indigenous community in Loliondo and start an urgent investigation into the repression” which “has caused dozens of injured, many missing and a police officer police killed “: this was stated by Amnesty International (Ai) on its website.

“More than 70,000 indigenous Maasai people are in danger of being displaced from their ancestral pastures to make way for a tourist operation,” recalls the organization for the defense of human rights.

“When the Tanzanian security forces began the demarcation process on June 9, community members began to protest by removing the beacons placed” by the agents themselves, it is added.

Against the demonstrators there was a “massive use of force by security agents and in the following two days dozens of people were injured” also by bullets, according to media accredited by Ai. (HANDLE).
