(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 16 – Two leading members of the pro-Iranian Lebanese armed movement Hezbollah, already sentenced on appeal for the killing, were sentenced to life imprisonment and definitively by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon based in the Netherlands , in 2005 in Beirut, of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri, murdered in a bomb attack along with 21 other people.
According to the court, presided over by judge Ivana Hrdličková, the two men, Hasan Habib Merhi and Hussein Oneissi, “were fully aware that the planned attack in the heart of Beirut would kill Rafiq Hariri”.
In this sense, the judge wrote on Twitter, they acted with premeditation and were guilty of crimes of “extreme gravity” and which “plunged the Lebanese into a state of terror”. (HANDLE).
