(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 18 – The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, told the BBC that his country will start peace talks only after “the last Russian soldier has left Ukraine”.
“The Russians have talked about finding a compromise. But what are they talking about? What compromise? Giving parts of Ukrainian territory to the Russians is not a compromise – he added -. I am more than sure that we will be ready to talk to the Russians about some compromise. When the last Russian soldier leaves Ukraine, it will be time to talk, but we are not there yet. The Russians must leave our homeland. “
According to Klitschko, the war in Ukraine is also “a tragedy for the Russians and for the Federation. People do not understand this at the moment, but I am sure they will realize the reality very soon”.
“The Russians are dying. For what? Putin’s ambition? This is why unity around Ukraine and all democratic countries is the key to peace and freedom in Europe”, he concluded.
