Gb, army must prepare to fight again in Europe

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 19 – The new chief of the British army has launched an appeal to his troops: we need to be ready to face the renewed threat from Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. The BBC reports it.

In a letter addressed to “all ranks and civil servants”, General Sir Patrick Sanders highlights the threat posed by Moscow and notes that he is the first Chief of Staff “since 1941 to take command of the army in the shadow of a land war in Europe involving a major continental power “.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine underscores our main purpose – to protect the UK and to be ready to fight and win land wars – and reinforces the need to deter Russian aggression with the threat of force.” says General Sanders. And he adds: “The world has changed since February 24 and now there is a categorical imperative to forge an army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle.” (HANDLE).
