Israel: decisive days for government, possible mistrust

(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, 20 JUN – The week that opens could be decisive for the government of Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid.

The opposition led by Benyamin Netanyahu is oriented to advance a law to dissolve the Knesset next Wednesday if the government, in addition to the already vanished majority, also loses – as it appears – the current parity of seats. Everything is linked to the figure of the deputy Nir Orbach – from the same ‘Yamina’ party as Bennett – who has been holding the ruling coalition on a tightrope for days with his intention of leaving the majority.

If Orbach confirms his intentions – despite the frantic activity of the government to attempt mediation with him – Netanyahu’s opposition will present the law for which, however, 3 formal approvals are required. However – as the media anticipated – the path appears to be partly marked, given that the opposition has other paths including a motion of no confidence or the rejection of the state budget.
