France: Le Pen will not resume driving RN

(ANSA) – PARIS, June 20 – In the aftermath of the success in the French legislative elections, Marine Le Pen announced that she will not “resume leadership” of the Rassemblement National (RN), leaving it to the young interim president Jordan Bardella, to fully consecrate himself to the presidency of the future RN group at the Assemblée Nationale. “I will not resume the leadership of the RN. I will concentrate on the presidency of this huge group at the Assemblée”, declared Le Pen, who, with 89 members, can form a group in Parliament for the first time. Numbers never seen before for the former Front National, of which she herself says she is “surprised”. “We were hoping to have a group and in our best wishes we were hoping for 60 deputies. We are pleasantly surprised by the mobilization of our compatriots and the hope that immigration, insecurity, the fight against Islamism, will not disappear from the National Assembly” Le Pen continued.

The deputy from Pas-de-Calais added that she had phoned her father and patriarch of the French far right, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who is now celebrating 94 years. He was “very happy with this situation,” Le Pen said, adding: “My father is a patriot who fought for so many years.” The former Front National will celebrate half a century of existence in the fall.
