Nine Onlus and ICRC for disabled people in Afghanistan.

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 21 – A collaboration agreement has been signed for one year between the International Committee of the Red Cross and Nove Onlus for the management of the Social Inclusion Program, as part of the ICRC Physical Rehabilitation Program in Afghanistan .

The agreement provides that, starting from June 2022, Nove will manage the ICRC’s Social Inclusion Program, making available the experience of its partner Alberto Cairo, who led the ICRC’s physical rehabilitation programs in Afghanistan for over 30 years. and will continue its collaboration with the ICRC in this new role.

‘The common goal of ICRC and Nove is to strengthen the commitment to support people with disabilities as Afghanistan is hit by one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world’, says Susanna Fioretti, president of Nove.

The program consists of two operational areas. One is dedicated to the inclusion of disabled people through sports activities (wheelchair basketball and futsal), educational support with home lessons, professional training and micro-credit loans. The second focuses on home care for the treatment of spinal cord injuries.

‘People with disabilities in Afghanistan are among the most vulnerable and this agreement with Nove will ensure continued support for tens of thousands of men, women and children with life-changing services,’ said Eloi Fillion, ICRC’s head of delegation in Afghanistan.

Physical rehabilitation of people with disabilities is only the first step in their reintegration into society and this agreement continues to ensure that their rights and access to education, work, microcredit loans, vocational training and sport are protected.
