(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 21 – The heavy monsoon rains that hit South Asia have caused dozens of deaths in recent days, following sudden floods, landslides or road accidents. The Dpa reports.
In northeastern India, 55 people have died since last week, while in Bangladesh and Pakistan at least two dozen people have been killed, local authorities announced today, stating that millions of people have been affected by bad weather.
Landslides in northern Pakistan disrupted traffic on a highway connecting the country to China’s Xinjiang region. Power lines were also damaged in Bangladesh due to the flooding of power distribution facilities. Rain hampered air traffic in several cities, causing flight cancellations and delays. Many road accidents also occurred on flooded roads and water masses caused buildings to collapse. According to the weather forecast, even more rain is expected in the region. (HANDLE).
