(ANSA) – NEW YORK, JUN 22 – From 2024 the Stonewall in New York, the first US national monument dedicated to the rights and battles of the LGBT + community, will have a tourist office.
The New York Times writes it. It is the first tourist office within the national parks circuit to be dedicated to LGBTQ + history and the 1969 riots that started from the Stonewall Inn, a bar and nightclub in the West Village, paving the way for the birth of the LGBT movement. The structure will be located in a currently empty space next to the StoneWall Inn, declared a national monument in 2016 by the then President of the United States Barack Obama.
The tourist office will be fully funded by donations and the foundation stone will be laid on June 24th, two days before the Pride returns to New York after two years.
