Knife attack in Auckland, 4 injured

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 23 – At least 4 people were injured in a knife attack in the crowd in Auckland, New Zealand. The local press reports, specifying that a person has been arrested.

The incident happened in Murrays Bay. One woman said she ran away screaming for help after being threatened on the beach by a man armed with a “big knife”.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, lives near the beach where she had taken her dog for a walk when she noticed a man near the shore. Thinking she wanted to talk to her, she took off her cell phone headphones and she walked over to him, almost immediately noticing her knife.

She ran towards the local sailing club as the man continued running towards Beach Rd, where he disappeared.

Shortly after, however, he was tracked down and arrested.

Waitematā District Police Commander Superintendent Naila Hassan told reporters that four people were stabbed in “random” and “isolated” attacks.

The perpetrator was a local and those affected have minor injuries.

“It was a random attack and there was no indication that it was a hate crime.”

The attacker is also hospitalized with minor injuries.

Everything was resolved within ten minutes. (HANDLE).
