The European Parliament supported granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for the European Union. The MEPs adopted a corresponding resolution. 529 officials voted in favor, 45 against, 14 abstained. Twitter.

“The European Parliament overwhelmingly adopts a resolution on the candidate status of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia: the voting results speak for themselves. A clear signal of support for the candidate status for Ukraine and Moldova ahead of today’s EU meeting,” he wrote.

The final decision on granting the status of candidates will be made at the EU summit, which will be held June 23-24 in Brussels.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsol noted that this will demonstrate leadership, determination and vision in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“An unequivocal and strong position of the European Parliament. Today, the European Commission should grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and the same path for Georgia. The EU remains a reliable partner and a trustworthy geopolitical player,” she said.
