(ANSA) – PARIS, June 25 – French President Emmanuel Macron has “decided to confirm confidence” in Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne after an initial round of consultations with political forces following the defeat suffered in Sunday’s legislative elections. He announced it in an interview with AFP.

Macron said he had given the prime minister the task of probing the parties and presenting proposals by the end of next week for the formation of a “new government of action” to be appointed “in early July”. The executive will be able to join, he explained, representatives of political forces ready to cooperate.

“On my return from the G7 and NATO leaders – said Macron – the Prime Minister will submit to me proposals for a roadmap for the government of France for the next months and years, and for the composition of a new government of action in the service of France which we will form in the first days of July “. This government, you explained, will be able to join representatives of political forces ready to cooperate with the majority. “I have confidence – added the president – in our collective ability to make it. I have confidence in the ability of the Prime Minister to make it emerge. I have confidence in the sense of responsibility of the government forces”. The red line of the new government will be not to raise “taxes or debt,” Macron added, noting that it will not give up on pension reforms and full employment. These are, he insisted, the “two great reforms that we must carry out through concertation, without totems or taboos”. (HANDLE).
