(ANSA-AFP) – QUITO, 25 JUN – Due to “a serious political crisis and internal unrest”, Ecuadorian parliamentarians have begun to discuss the possible dismissal of President Guillermo Lasso. To ask for the impeachment were the deputies who support the former socialist president Rafael Correa. The session was attended by “135 (out of 137) members of the Assembly”, according to the Parliament’s Twitter account. Daily demonstrations have been underway since June 13, resulting in five deaths and over 200 injuries. After the debate in the plenary, the deputies will have 72 hours to vote: a majority of 92 votes out of 137 is required for the approval of the dismissal procedure.
