One of the themes of the NATO summit in Madrid, which will be held from 28 to 30 June, will be the largest deployment of the Alliance forces since the Cold War. This was written by the Spanish edition of El Pais, according to the Telegram channel “Today”.

NATO is ready to turn eastern Europe into an outpost with thousands of troops and a lot of equipment. Thus, NATO plans to be ready in case of aggression against any member state.

There are also discussions about the number of contingents. Some countries want to move from fighting groups on the eastern flank to brigades. Today, the units number up to 1.6 thousand soldiers, and their transformation into brigades will double the number.

Some NATO countries insist on the deployment of divisions under the command of generals, which implies up to 15,000 troops.

Other topics of the summit

During the summit in Madrid, which will be held from June 28 to 30, a new NATO strategic concept may be approved.

At the NATO summit, Russia will be declared a threat to security, peace and stability. Now she formally still remains a partner. China will also be mentioned for the first time. This was stated by Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

In addition, Poland will ask for an increase in the presence of NATO on its territory due to Russian aggression.

A little earlier, US National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said that there are three main goals that need to be achieved at the G7 and NATO summits at the end of June.
