Stoltenberg continues to voice the agenda of the future summit
NATO will have to respond to inadequate Russia / Collage “Today”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg continues to talk about the agenda of the organization’s summit, which will be held in Madrid (Spain) on June 29-30. It became known that the North Atlantic Alliance is ready to increase the number of Rapid Reaction Forces eight times (up to 300,000) and will identify Russia as the main threat.
Jens Stoltenberg announced this during a briefing, reports the Associated Press.
Statement
NATO will increase the size of its Rapid Reaction Force by almost eight times, to 300,000 troops, in response to “an era of strategic rivalry,” Stoltenberg said. The NATO Response Force currently has around 40,000 soldiers who can deploy quickly if needed.
“Combined with other measures, such as deploying forces to protect specific allies, this move is part of the largest reform of collective defense and deterrence since the Cold War.” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
He said he expects allies to make it clear that they consider Russia “the most serious and direct threat to our security.”
Ukraine
Stoltenberg assured that the allies are ready to provide additional military support to Ukraine, and NATO members intend to accept a “strengthened comprehensive assistance package”, including the supply of secure communications systems and defense against drones.
Earlier, on the eve of the summit, the head of NATO said that this war should end at the negotiating table, at which Ukraine should have a strong position. And to ensure these positions are taken by the countries – members of NATO.
