(ANSA) – BEIJING, June 29 – China will maintain the policy of ‘zero tolerance at Covid’ until the “final victory”, despite the repercussions to the economy due to the draconian lockdowns. This was stated by President Xi Jinping, assuring that the pandemic is “a great test” and justifying the rigid lines introduced at the central level. “It is better to temporarily affect economic development a little than to harm people’s lives and health, especially to protect the elderly and children,” Xi said in the Xinhua news agency report, in the inspection visit to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei where Covid-19 emerged at the end of 2019.
