Covid: Ny, free antiviral to positive in mobile units for testing

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, JUL 01 – The city of New York will be the first city in the US to offer the antiviral drug Paxlovid free of charge in mobile units that carry out Covid tampons, but only to those who are positive. Mayor Eric Adams announced it.

The initiative has been renamed ‘Test to Treat’ and will allow both to receive immediate therapy and to eliminate inequalities in access to the drug, especially for those who are not covered by health insurance. Adams tested positive last April and, as he himself reported, had mild symptoms precisely because he took Paxlovid. The drug, manufactured by Pfizer, has been shown to greatly reduce the chances of serious illness in high-risk people when taken early in the infection. At the moment, the Paxlovid only got an emergency clearance at the end of last year. (HANDLE).
