Australia: Sydney floods, at least 30,000 people evacuated

(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 04 – At least thirty thousand people evacuated and new evacuation orders arriving for the inhabitants of Sydney after the incessant rains have flooded several suburbs of the largest Australian city. The authorities issued the alert for deterioration in the next 12 hours. CNN writes it.

An intense low-pressure system off Australia’s east coast is expected to bring more heavy rain to southern New South Wales after a difficult weekend.

“If you were safe in 2021, don’t think you were safe tonight. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we could see areas affected that have never experienced flooding before,” said the New Emergency Services Minister. South Wales, Steph Cooke, in a televised media briefing. The minister urged people to reconsider travel for the holidays, as bad weather hit the start of the school break.
