Smallpox in monkeys: in Brazil the number of cases has risen to 77

(ANSA) – BRASILIA, 04 JUL – In Brazil, the number of infected with monkeypox has risen to 77, mostly people who have entered the country from Europe, while another 29 are under observation: CNN Brasil reports.

Sao Paulo, the most populous state, has registered 52 infected, and at least three of them are patients who contracted the disease without leaving the country or having come into contact with travelers.

Meanwhile, researchers from the University of Sao Paulo have started studies on samples of the virus with the aim of developing a more efficient test to diagnose the presence of the disease.

The second state with the highest number of cases is Rio de Janeiro, which has 16, the municipal secretary of health told the Band News channel.

Finally, the states of Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Cearà have confirmed two cases each, while the Ministry of Health has reported a confirmed case respectively in the Federal District and in the State of Rio Grande do Norte.

Meanwhile, yesterday another case was confirmed in the state of Paranà (south), but his case was not yet included in the list drawn up so far by the federal government. (HANDLE).
