(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 04 – Phan Thi Kim Phuc, the ex-girlfriend in the famous photo of the 1972 napalm attack in Vietnam, today accompanied 240 refugees from the war in Ukraine on a flight from Warsaw to Canada. The Guardian reports it.
The Associated Press photo in which 9-year-old Phuc runs with his body burned by napalm, which has become a symbol of the war in the Southeast Asian country, was printed on the private NGO plane that brought refugees to the city of Regina. the capital of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
Kim, 59, now a Canadian citizen, said she wanted her story and her work for refugees to be a message of peace. With her husband, Bui Huy Toan, she traveled from Toronto aboard the humanitarian flight.
The 236 refugees, mostly women and children from all over Ukraine, are among the thousands of Ukrainians for whom Canada has provided humanitarian visas after the Russian invasion of their country. (HANDLE).
