Sudan: street demonstrators reject al-Burhan proposal

(ANSA) – KHARTOUM, 06 JUL – Sudanese demonstrators against the coup of last April 25 continue the barricades on the streets of the capital Khartoum today, reiterating that they believe in the promises of the army general to make room for the civil government. The commitment made earlier this week by the leader of the military junta at the helm of the country, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, was in fact called “a gigantic ruse” by activists, who called for new protests.

The general also said the ruling Sovereign Council would be dismantled and today issued a decree relieving five civilian members from their position. The main Sudanese civil alliance, Forces for Freedom and Change (FLC) argues that al-Burhan’s sole intent is to quell the protests, calling the general’s move a “strategic retreat”. (HANDLE).
