The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) said that Russian and Belarusian intelligence agencies are extremely interested in recruiting officials in the border regions where NATO allied forces are deployed.

Delphi reports.

It is noted that the Russian and Belarusian special services have always been interested in recruiting Latvian state and municipal officials who have information that would contain state secrets or other data with limited access.

According to the VDD analysis, the Russian and Belarusian intelligence services are interested in the reaction of Latvia and its allies to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including building up military potential on NATO’s external border.

Also, Moscow and Minsk are interested in any information about the border regions of Latvia, which would be useful for updating operational plans in case the situation escalates into a wider military conflict.

In addition, the special services of the two countries are aimed at recruiting officials of self-government bodies near the eastern borders of the country, where the forces of the allied countries are deployed.

Earlier we reported that Zakharova is already scaring Lithuania with cruel measures for Kaliningrad.

We also recall that the Pentagon assessed the reality of the threat of an attack by the Russian Federation on the Baltic countries.
