(ANSA) – BEIJING, 11 JUL – Kei Sato, the Liberal Democrat candidate at whose rally former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated, prevailed in his college in Nara, snatching a seat in the Upper House.

In the large electoral victory of the Jiminto (Liberademcrats), Sato’s race was among those particularly followed. “In the final stages of the electoral test, I campaigned to defeat terrorism without flinching or being intimidated by it,” the new parliamentarian told the Japanese media. “I will go to Tokyo tomorrow to firmly tell the results of this victory to former premier Abe,” he added of the vigil organized on Monday for Japan’s longest-serving prime minister since the war.
