UN study, India will overtake China’s population by 2023

(ANSA) – NEW DELHI, 11 JUL – India will overtake China in 2023, becoming the most populous country in the world: according to a United Nations study released today.

According to the study, The World Population Prospects 2022, edited by the Department of Social and Economic Affairs, the Indians are today 1 billion 412 million, while the Chinese are 1 billion 426 million By November 15 of this year, the study still says, the global population will reach eight billion, although annual growth has fallen to the lowest percentage since 1950, with an increase of less than 1 percent in 2020.

The report was presented today by UN Secretary General António Guterres on the occasion of World Population Day.

The study predicts that India will reach a population of 1 billion 668 million by the middle of the century, while China is expected to drop to 1 billion 317 million by 2050.
