(ANSA) – NEW YORK, 12 JUL – Rain of criticism on First Lady Jill Biden for comparing Hispanics to “tacos”.
Speaking at a meeting in San Antonio, Texas, Jill Biden spoke about the “community diversity” of Hispanics she was addressing. “A diversity as distinctive as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the flowering trees of Miami and as unique as the tacos here in San Antonio,” said the First Lady. Words that infuriated the Hispanic community. “We’re not tacos,” the National Association of Hispanic Journalists retorted dryly. The First lady “should take time to understand Latinos better”: “Our heritage is made up of cultures and culinary traditions as well. But we cannot be reduced to stereotypes”. (HANDLE).
