(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, JUL 15 – Iran has called “unacceptable” the life sentence in Sweden of former Iranian officer Hamid Nouri for having had a role in the killing of at least 5,000 dissidents and political prisoners in 1988 in a prison near Tehran. “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns this political statement which includes unfounded and fabricated accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the judicial system of our country and announces a life sentence for Hamid Nouri” said, as reported by Irna, the spokesman of the foreign ministry of Tehran Nasser Kanani.
Following the sentence, the Swedish chargé d’affaires in Tehran was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry which called the sentence “illegal and contrary to the principles of international law”, denouncing the Swedish court as “incompetent”. (HANDLE).
