(ANSA) – LONDON, JUL 15 – Red alert starting from Sunday also in the United Kingdom in the wake of the forecasts relating to the heat wave that is already affecting many countries of continental Europe. This was formalized today by the Met Office, the British meteorological agency, after a preparatory government meeting yesterday of the Cobra emergency committee chaired on the occasion by the Minister of the Cabinet Office of the outgoing government of Boris Johnson, Kit Malthouse.
The alert mainly concerns the territory of England, where between Monday and Tuesday highs above 35 degrees are expected from the London area, to the Midlands, to the regions of Manchester and York further north; and peaks over 40 are not excluded, with possible absolute records for the summer season in the Kingdom since the data was collected. The preventive indications suggest prudence in sun exposure and care in hydration, signaling health dangers “not limited to vulnerable people only”, elderly or sick.
