Greece: eight people died on board a crashed plane

All eight people on board the cargo plane that left Nis in southern Serbia and crashed in northern Greece last night died. The Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said today.
Speaking at a press conference this morning in Belgrade, Stefanovic said the aircraft – a four-engined Antonov An-12 owned by Ukrainian company Meridian Ltd – was carrying 11.5 tons of Serbian military material destined for the Bangladesh Ministry of Defense.
The flight, which departed from Nis at 20.40, had as its final destination Dhaka with a technical stop in Amman, Jordan. There are no Serbian citizens among the victims. The disaster occurred near Paleochori Kavalas, about 140 kilometers east of Thessalonica.
Two firefighters working near the crash site were hospitalized early this morning with breathing problems caused by toxic cargo fumes that flooded the area. The rescue teams have not yet approached the site of the disaster, near the town of Paleochori Kavalas and the searches are being conducted with the help of a drone. According to state TV, the army, explosives experts and staff from the Greek Atomic Energy Commission will only approach the crash site after it is declared safe, due to concerns about the toxicity of the cargo.
So far, said a fire brigade official – Marios Apostolidis – only “fire service men with special equipment and measuring instruments have approached the plane’s impact point and observed closely the fuselage and other parts (of the airplane) scattered in the fields “. (HANDLE).
