(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, JUL 18 – A group of relatives of the victims of September 11 attacked Donald Trump for the decision to host some stages of a LIV golf championship, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, in his fields in New Jersey in starting from 29 July.
In an open letter to the former US president, family members of some of the 3,000 victims said they felt “pain, frustration and anger” over Trump’s decision to host the controversial Riyadh-sponsored golf league.
Fifteen of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis, and Saudi Arabia has been considered a safe haven for extremists for years. “We simply cannot understand how anyone can accept money from Saudi Arabia to host their tournament in the shadow of Ground Zero in New Jersey, which lost over 700 residents in the attacks,” it reads again. “It is incomprehensible that a former president of the United States has set aside our loved ones for personal gain” (ANSA).
